Attendance
Consistent attendance at school means much better outcomes for pupils. We have a high expectation of attendance.
We ask that parents/carers arrange medical appointments outside of school hours.
Where an absence lasts three days or more we will work with parents/carers to find out more about the absence and how we can support their child back into school. This includes a welfare check, which will be undertaken by our family wellbeing team.
Our family support worker works closely with families to improve attendance. Where appropriate we will liaise with multi-agencies to ensure appropriate support if offered.
Where a child’s attendance declines, we will provide targeted bespoke support.
As the vast majority of our pupils are transported to and from school on Local Authority commissioned transport, we will work with parents and the LA when pupils are late for school on a number of occasions. Similarly, where parents transport their own child to school we work with the parents when lateness at school becomes a pattern.
Any parent/carer wishing to take their child on holiday during school time must complete an Application for Leave of Absence during Term form which can be requested from the school office. This request must be completed two weeks in advance and can not be completed retrospectively. . The planned absence will then be discussed at the EVAT attendance panel where a decision to fine or not will be made. Parents will be informed of this decision following the meeting. All absences for holidays during term time will be unauthorised except in exceptional circumstances.
