SMSC and British Values
Education about Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural values is particularly important to us. We believe the personal development of values plays a significant role in supporting pupils to learn and achieve. We celebrate diversity, build strong partnerships and treat everyone as a unique individual. Most of all, we promote an appreciation of the richness of the cultures in both the United Kingdom and the wider world.
We provide SMSC learning opportunities through our:
- Religious education curriculum
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic curriculum
- Outdoor education
- Circle time
- Structured reward systems
- Enrichment and extra-curricular activities
- Sports activities
- Pupil Voice (the School Council)
- Themed days, including fund raising, cultural experiences and immersion days

British Values
We have embedded British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and values within our curriculum.
The values are linked to our school values of citizenship, working together and respect. We promote democracy through our election of school council members, head boy/girl and we also take part in the national elections for youth parliament.
We encourage our pupils to listen to each other in class and discuss codes of conduct and behaviour.
We actively promote tolerance, especially to those of different faiths and beliefs in our RE curriculum, assemblies and other opportunities to explore faith occasions such as harvest festival, Diwali and Eid.
Our curriculum enables pupils to learn that there are different views and opinions to those of their own. We promote the development of self-confidence, self-worth and self-identity. We provide opportunities for self-reflection, opportunities to ask questions, challenge inappropriate and harmful views and behaviours and stand up for what they believe is right. We believe this is particularly important in educating our pupils about extreme attitudes and behaviours.
